When it comes to hockey cards, prospecting can take on a few different forms. There are traditional minor league releases like those for the CHL and AHL that Upper Deck does. 2023 Upper Deck Team Canada Juniors Hockey goes right to the national team. Like recent years, it’s fairly hits-heavy with four total autographs, autograph patch cards, memorabilia cards or premium “tech” inserts per box. Collectors will also uncover a steady flow of other inserts, parallels and serial-numbered cards.

2023 Upper Deck Team Canada Juniors Hockey Checklist Overview

While there are 150 total cards in the base set, it’s broken into a few sections. Standard base cards, which cover the first 63 spots on the checklist, are a mix of players from the U18 and U20 men’s teams as well as Canada’s Women’s National Team. The Pride of the Program (#64-100) and Program of Excellence (#101-150) subsets make up the balance of the set. Program of Excellence cards land 1:4 hobby packs and 1:3 for blasters. Parallels for the 63-card shell set include one-per hobby pack Red Foil, Rose Gold Foil (1:2 blaster packs), Pattern Foilboard (1:5 hobby packs), Clear Cut (1:40 hobby packs), Blue Pattern Foilboard (1:120 blaster packs), Exclusives (/100), Gold Pattern Foilboard (/25), High Gloss (/10), and Finite (1/1).

Program of Excellence cards have Clear Cut (1:80 hobby packs), Exclusives (/100), High Gloss (/10) and Finite (1/1) parallels. And then there are the versions that get autograph and memorabilia upgrades. Select standard base cards have Jersey (1:6 hobby packs), Signatures (1:120 hobby packs, 1:480 blaster packs), Auto Patch (/175 or /125), and Black Signatures (/5). Pride of the Program has the same mix, albeit at adjusted print runs and odds. Some Program of Excellence have signed versions.

Additional Inserts

2023 Upper Deck Team Canada Juniors Hockey has a few other insert sets to chase as well. License to Ice (1:120 hobby pack) makes its debut. Designed to resemble a driver’s license, these are thick and done on plexiglass stock. Red parallels are numbered to 23. Skating the Wave (1:240 hobby packs), which have a wave pattern background, and Go to the Top (1:28 hobby packs) are also new this year. Prospectus Momentous (1:10 hobby packs, 1:6 blaster packs) return, highlighting recent and future draft picks to go through the national team program. Parallels include Electric Red (/549), Electric Blue (/349), Electric Yellow (/149), Electric Gold (/99), Electric Orange (/75) and Electric Pink (1/1). Light FX stock is used for Team Canada FX (1:112 packs).
