2023-24 SP Game Used Hockey might have memorabilia in its name, but there’s more to the checklist than just jerseys and sticks. From a scarce base set to event-specific relics, it puts a different spin on the hockey card season. Hobby boxes are kept small with just six cards. Of those, one is either an autograph or a premium memorabilia card. Collectors will also find three more memorabilia cards or premium inserts.

2023-24 SP Game Used Hockey Checklist Overview

SP Game Used Hockey has one of the most challenging base sets in the hobby. It’s so tough that it’s likely that nobody even attempts to put together the entire thing. Consisting of 200 total cards, each standard card is numbered to the player’s jersey number. That means an absolute maximum of 99 copies, although many can dip down to a handful or even lower. It’s a mix of veterans, legends and 80 Authentic Rookies. For vets and legends, parallels include Red (/299), Gold (/199), Purple (/5) and Green (1/1). It’s a little more complicated with the rookies. Red are 200 plus their age while Gold are 100 plus their draft year. Crystal versions (/25) join Purple (/5) and Green (1/1). Select base cards at all levels of the checklist also have a variety of jersey, premium memorabilia, autograph, and autographed memorabilia versions.

Game Day Gear

A lot of times you don’t know where the swatches in a memorabilia card come from. 2023-24 SP Game Used Hockey has some where that’s not the case. The 2023 NHL Global Series, Stadium Series, and Winter Classic all have separate Fabrics sets that have pieces in conjunction the special games. Patch (/35), Tag (/3) and Logo Patch (1/1) versions are also available. Net cord from the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, All-Star Game, All-Star Skills Competition and Winter Classic can be found. Base versions have 35 copies with scarce Gold parallels (/5). In a similar vein are puck cards from many of the same events and targets from the All-Star Accuracy competition (/25). All-Star Skills Dual Jersey (1:15 packs) cards have additional patch (/35) versions.

Going in a slightly different direction are 2023 NHL All-Star Mascot Fabrics (1:6 packs). Instead of players, these highlight teams’ cornerstone creatures with swatches from event-work All-Star festivities. Patch (/35), Tag (/3) and Team Logo (1/1) parallels are available here as well. Banner Year returns for another year. These have pieces of banners that hung at several of the NHL’s trademark and special events like the 2021 Seattle Kraken Expansion Draft (1:19 packs), 2022 NFHL Global Series (1:12 packs), 2023 NHL Draft (1:8 packs), 2023 Stanley Cup Finals (1:12 packs), 2023 NHL Winter Classic (1:12 packs), and 2023 NHL Stadium Series (1:16 packs). Some of these also have numbered autograph versions.

Additional Memorabilia Cards, Autographs and Inserts

When it comes to other memorabilia cards and autographs, the 2023-24 SP Game Used Hockey checklist has several returning themes. Supreme Materials and Supreme Patches are scarce with just 15 copies each. These get their name for their jumbo pieces of gear. Other memorabilia-only inserts include Rookie Sweaters (1:7 packs), Retro Renovations (/100), A Piece of History (/99), Rally Time (/50), and They’re Cones (/25). Draft Day Marks use manufactured letter patches for the signature spot. Collectors can stick with one card or chase the player’s name. Hall of Fame Marks (/35) use manufactured letters for some of hockey’s all-time greats. Inked Sweaters is another place to find signed relics.

New Grooves inserts have four standard levels of parallels: Red (/199), Gold (/99), Purple (/5) and Green (1/1). Spins with hits come in Jersey (1:7 packs), Autographs (1:54 packs), Patch, Auto Jersey (/25), AUto Patch (/10), Autographs Purple (/5), Auto Tag (/2) and Autographs Green (1/1). Deep Cuts (/250) are new in 2023-24 SP Game Used Hockey. Their die-cut highlights are their most notable aspect. Red (/35) and Autograph (/75 or /25) versions are randomly inserted as well.
