 With two hits and two tech cards per box, 2021-22 SPx Hockey remains a quick NHL collecting break. This advertised Hobby box output differs slightly from 2020-21, which averaged two to three hits per box. These cards can be autographs, relics or autographed relics.

2021-22 SPx Hockey Base / Inserts

Per Upper Deck, “SPx is a premium product at a bargain price.” The true base set offers 100 cards that are all numbered to 299. Joining the base set are tech inserts Shadow Box Rookies (1:25) and Shadow Box Veterans (1:70). These incorporate an acetate top layer and Spectrum Light F/X technology. Other choices include Finite Rookies (#/399) and the all-new Radiance F/X (1:8.5), which also pairs acetate with Spectrum Light F/X.

2021-22 SPx Hockey Autographs / Relics

With two premium hits falling per box, the 2021-22 SPx Hockey checklist rolls in many autographs and relics. Up first is the hit base lineup that extends the main card series. Of course, the rookies also get in on the action with Rookie Autograph Jersey (#/375 or less) and Rookie Jersey (1:14). The cards contain player-worn memorabilia.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for 2021-22 SPx Hockey. Returning sets include the hard-signed Shadow Box Autographs (#/175 or less). Super Scripts highlights top veterans (1:30) and rookies (1:60). SPx Signatures also features veteran (1:60) and rookie (1:150) talent. In addition, the Radiance F/X Autographs (#’d) line adds more rarity to the new insert.

From there, chase SPx Signature Fabrics, numbered to 49 or less, and serial-numbered Winning Materials Autographs cards.  As for memorabilia, the 2021-22 SPx Hockey selection includes Double XL Materials Duos (#/99 or less), with game-worn swatches, as well as Extravagant Materials (1:65), SPx Jersey (1:48), and Winning Materials (1:33).

2021-22 Upper Deck UD Black Hockey Set Details

A favorite move from Upper Deck is to release an established brand into another product. SPx has been the official home of UD Black for years now and 2021-22 SPx Hockey continues that tradition. The main Obsidian Rookies (#/349) insert has Gold (#/99) and Purple (#/25) parallels. Autographs enter the fray with Lustrous Rookie Signatures (#/299 or less), Obsidian Scripts (1:100) and Obsidian Scripts Rookies (1:200).

RPA fans can check out Lustrous Rookies Patch Autographs (#/125 or less), as well. On top of that, adventurous collectors can hunt down the contrasting Clarity Variant (#/15). The Pride of a Nation Patch Autographs (#/99 or less) set combines manufactured relics with an on-card signature. Switching to the memorabilia, collect UD Black relics via Obsidian Jersey (#/249) and Obsidian Rookies Jersey (#/399). The Pride of a Nation (#/99) cards display a manufactured flag patch from the player’s country of birth.
