Product Details
Act three of the flagship set’s annual cardboard performance, 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball wraps up the MLB collecting season with traded stars, rookie debuts and a few new inserts. The fall release is the final installment of the three-product lineup that includes 2020 Topps Series 1 and Series 2 Baseball. It also continues the Celebration of the Decades and Silver Packs promotions.
2020 Topps Update Series Baseball Base / Parallels
As is normally the case for the “Updates” brand, 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball is built around a 300-card base set. This includes top rookies, some of the recent trades, stat leaders and combo player cards, as well as subsets for previous MLB All-Stars and Home Run Derby standouts. This is because neither event took place in 2020. All cards are treated to a mix of parallels.

2020 Topps Update Series Baseball Inserts
Likely familiar to Series 1 and Series 2 fans, carryover inserts include Decades’ Best, which highlights Award Winners along with the Best Hitters, Best Pitchers and Best Teams from various eras. The 35th-anniversary set for 1985 Topps Baseball also gets another batch of cards that average 1:4 packs. Although 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball does finish off a few continuation sets, there is some fresh content to check out, as well. This includes the #1 Prospect line that showcases a top prospect from every MLB team. The young players are shown in MiLB uniforms. In 20 Years of The Captain, Yankees legend Derek Jeter is covered via a retrospective insert. Also new, A Numbers Game features some of the all-time great players to have their jersey numbers retired. The inserts add Blue, Black (#/299), Gold (#/50), Red (#/10), and Platinum (1/1) parallels. On top of that, collectors can find limited autographs for #1 Prospect (#/25 or less), 20 Years of The Captain (1/1), A Numbers Game (#/25 or less) and Decades’ Best (#/25 or less).
2020 Topps Update Series Baseball Autographs
Of course, these aren’t the only signed cards. The 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball checklist offers the standard assortment of autographs, such as the hard-signed 1985 Topps Baseball Autograph set with Black (#/199), Gold (#/50), Red (#/25 – Hobby) and Platinum (1/1 – Hobby/Jumbo) parallels. There is also Baseball Stars with Black (#/199), Gold (#/50), Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1) editions, along with Baseball Stars Dual numbered to just five copies (or less). The Cut Signatures cards are all one-of-one options displaying cut autographs for MLB greats.
2020 Topps Update Series Baseball Relics / Auto Relics / Sketch
On the relic side of 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball, collectors can look forward to multiple memorabilia sets. MLB’s All-Star Game remains a focal point in All-Star Stitches, All-Star Stitches Dual (#/25), All-Star Stitches Triple (#/25) and All-Star Stitches Jumbo Patch (#/5). There are also low-numbered parallels and signed cards capped at 25 or less. Given there was no All-Star Game in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, all the ASG cards have workout jersey pieces from 2013 to 2019. Topps Reverence Autographed Patch is the de facto high-end chase, boasting premium designs and an on-card signature. These are numbered to 10 copies or less. Major League Material again offers Black (#/199), Gold (#/50), Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1 – Hobby/Jumbo) parallels, as well as autographs numbered to 50 or less.
Own The Name is another tried-and-true hit possibility that contains a jersey nameplate letter. The one-of-one cards are only in Hobby/Jumbo boxes. Another brand staple is the manufactured relic lineup. This time, DJ is the focus, including Hobby/Jumbo-only 20 Years of The Captain Commemorative Patch and Derek Jeter Final Season Commemorative Patch cards. Fans can find Black (#/50), Gold (#/20), Red (#/10), and Platinum (1/1) editions, along with numbered autographs. The 20 Years set has one-of-one autographs and Final Season offers signed cards limited to 25 copies or less. Acting as a topper, the 2020 Topps Baseball Boxloader Patches set supplies relics for “50 of the most collectible cards in the 2020 Topps Baseball Flagship.” Other choices include hand-drawn Sketch cards in Hobby and Jumbo packs.
2020 Topps Update Series Baseball Silver Packs
Closing out 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball is the Silver Packs Hobby promo. The set tackles the 1985 design with Chrome for the third time. Limited parallels and autographs are a possibility once more. Hobby boxes include one pack while Jumbo boxes have two packs inserted.
